“Documentary Synesthesia; as a critical method” Sightlines VCS 2024

-
This essay examines art objects that perform what I term “documentary synesthesia,” the translation of personal, internal synesthetic experience into external artistic, visual, or written forms. Documentary synesthesia offers a way to communicate synesthetic qualities to non-synesthetic audiences and serves as a tool for understanding complex human perception.

As Line, As Language, As Thread: Ana Jotta at the Wattis
“Ana Jotta, Never the Less in correspondence with Norma Cole and Adrian Lürssen’s Poetry Reading: October 12th 2023”
-
Jotta, Cole, and Lürssen each use line to construct their worlds. While Lürssen and Cole employ line through words and language, Jotta uses line as a material thread within her visual work. In different ways, all three use drawing as a method to convey aspects of their perceived realities.
