VCS Sightlines Publication
Evelynn Harra brings her experiences of synesthesia to her writing and research. Harra’s work amplifies the importance of visual documentation of first person synesthetic experiences through the method of documentary synesthesia. As an outlet for this passion and interest in synesthesia, Harra is featured in the VCS Publication series, Sightlines, for California College of the Arts where she wrote Documentary Synesthesia; as a method. Harra also wrote her final master's thesis, Documentary Synesthesia; Bridging the Gap Between Art and Science, in 2023.

As a contributing writer for Rewind Review Respond (RRR). Evelynn Harra has previously published “The Compass Rose at Fort Mason'' (RRR Spring 2023) and “As Line, As Language, As Thread: Ana Jotta'' (RRR Fall 2023). She also published David Gissen: "The Architecture of Disability" (RRR Spring 2024) and Lorenzo Balbi presentation of "A possible Model for the “Materiality” of Museums" at the Materiality of Resistance Symposium (RRR Spring 2024).

Evelynn Harra received her Master's Degree in Visual and Critical Studies from California College of the Arts. During her studies, Harra focused on work amplifying the importance of visual documentation of first person synesthetic experiences through the method of documentary synesthesia.

Evelynn Harra received her Bachelor's Degree in Art History from Sonoma State University. Her studies focused on various perceptions of art, art practices and approaches and how these impact artists and the systems of gallery and museum collections.

Raising attention to the voices of synesthetic artists, authors and scientists who already study and express synesthesia, arguing that synesthesia is an added sense of perception within the method of documentary synesthesia to explain our visual culture.

“Description of Art and Societies Attitudes Towards Sexism, Racism, and Cultural Diversity. ”
Societal attitudes are reflected in chosen vocabulary. The choice and use of language is vital to reflecting the social attitudes towards concepts such as race and sex. Manet’s Olympia is a prime example of the transformation of vocabulary having an influence on the way a painting is interpreted and viewed.
